Simple Feng Shui Tips to Improve Your Life
Many people these days are becoming more and more interested in the fascinating world of Feng Shui.
One of the really great things about the ancient art and science is that you can improve your life very easily by implementing a few things here and there.
Just a little bit of the right Feng Shui and you should notice the benefits quite quickly.
Here are a few simple Feng Shui tips you can use to improve your life:
• Front Door – Your front door sets the tone for the entire rest of the house. Even of your house is gorgeous and clean, if your front door is not properly taken care of, you can have problems. This is where the chi, or good energy, enters your home.
Freshen up your front door by giving it a good, new coat of paint. Keep plants and shrubs trimmed back so they don’t hinder the entryway, and keep clutter and shoe piles away from the entryway.
• Living Room – Arrange your furniture so that it is conducive to people being able to sit and enjoy each other’s’ company, without having to crane their necks or be blocked by visual impediments. When your furniture is harmonious – so too will your relationships be.
Keep sharp edges blocked or remove them, as this is not conducive to good Feng Shui practices and the sharp lines transmit negative energy.
• Dried Flowers – Many people have dried flower arrangements in their homes. They are attractive, but they are a big no-no in Feng Shui. It is very important not to have the energy of anything dead in the home. Dead flowers do not conduct the right kind of energy.
If you want flowers in your home (and they are excellent for Feng Shui), then get live flowers or potted flowers, preferably with round leaves. Make sure to get rid of them the moment they die, or you will be bringing harmful chi into your home.
• Mops and Brooms – Keep mops and brooms out of sight, so that they can’t be seen. It is also recommended that they be stored upside down. This may seem strange, but brooms and the like are a very powerful element in Feng Shui for both good and bad. You run the risk of sweeping out your good energy if you leave your brooms and mops out and cluttered.
• Mailbox – Paint your mailbox in a fun, lively color. This is an important Feng Shui element that will encourage increased money and business via the mail, as well as good news.
If you follow these steps, along with one of the basic tenets of Feng Shui which is clearing out clutter so the positive energy (chi) can flow properly, you may notice an amazing difference in your life and home.

Historically, feng shui was widely used to orient buildings, (often spiritually significant structures such as tombs), but also dwellings and other structures—in an auspicious manner. Depending on the particular style of feng shui being used, an auspicious site could be determined by reference to local features such as bodies of water, stars, or a compass. Feng shui was suppressed in China during the cultural revolution in the 1960s, but since then has increased in popularity.
There was a suburb in my old home town that was strongly populated by Chinese descendants. A local park was getting a facelift, which included a small bridge over the pond. I read in the paper, that the council workers were baffled, as they would arrive for work each morning and the foundations of the bridge kept moving so that the bridge would point in a different direction. They finally discovered that it was ‘bad luck’ to have a bridge over water point at your house, so the Chinese residents surrounding the park would sneak out after dark and try to point it away from their house! Ha.
Would love to read up more on easy feng shui tips to use in my home. Love Feroza.
I love hearing of simple Feng Shui tips. They really resonate with me. I will see what I can do to compliment this post. Thanks for your support Feroza.
It’s good to have another idea of how to clear energy in my home. Some of these feng shui tips also seem like common sense, no sharp edges for example! Does your feng shui guy have any tips for ppl living in townhouse unit complex with neighbors on each wall? I’ve been smudging with sage fairly frequently. I’m not allowed to paint the letter box, but my numerology is 8 for this house so it is somewhat auspicious. There’s a creek with many different birds out the back, but I can’t physically see it from my property. I’m on the beach side of the highway, and I can watch the cars from my loungeroom window! Any tips appreciated!
Hi Karyn, I was in a similar situation at my previous address. I was told not to sleep with your head against the wall that connects your house to the street power poles. But in my bedroom there was literally nothing I could do to avoid that, except sleep standing up in the cupboard! 🙂 The message I got back was just to do the best you can with what you’ve got. As i was aware that it was preferable I didn’t sleep that way, I set an intention that it would do me no harm. It’s great to work with a book, or get an informed friend to visit your house for a once over. When looking with ‘feng-shui eyes’, you will soon see where energy flow could improve. Most of it is common sense as you say.
I have watched on TV a programme called house busters,it is about people who live in their home and it is haunted, either it was like that from the start when they moved in, or sometimes it has become haunted, what happens is the people tell their problem of the house, about how it is affecting them and when it started etc, then they have three different people who are, a psychic, a astrologer and a feng shui they are all experts, one at a time they go into the house without being told the exact problem (they only know it is haunted)the expert will pick up the energy of what is causing it, when it started, why ,who, etc,the people who live in the home are watching as the expert go throughout their home giving their verdict and the remedy to rid the unwanted guest/s.then they choose which of the three they think best to help them and tell the TV presenter who is with them outside their home in a van watching it all on a tv monitor who ever it is to help them get rid of the spirit/s it ends up being down to the basis of feng shui, the first thing they do is get rid of any clutter which is a very important rule as is they move the furniture round to change the energy flow, get rid of any dried and dead plants, they paint/wallpaper,use a special mirror used in f.shui to ward off negative energies, also use the elements of fire, water, earth, air and place them in their direction of the north, east, south, west, the f.s expert will use a special ruler and compass which the other two expert’s do not, but other than that it boils down to feng shui, that goes to their garden as well. When a few weeks have passed by,the tv presenter goes back to the home to see if the unwanted guests are gone,in 90{df31a8e171f738cf751502d9b5a6f3a7abba4f50502d2a833ebe3ce1ac671440} of the time they have left, which is the proof of the pudding haha!
That’s great Selina. I love the ideas they come up with for TV Programs. It opens the minds of the viewers in a safe way. There has never been such open acceptance of spiritual or ‘unseen’ phenomenon – I love it.
Hi Nigel, I read your advice on plants. As I do not possess ‘green fingers’ plants die on me all the time (except for cactus). So, I use paper or silk flowers instead in flower arrangements. Is this a ‘no no’ or can I go on using those fake flowers?
Hello Mariken, great question. In an ideal world, real flowers are best … but if your plants are dying on you – that’s not ideal either! So, you’re in a pickle! (Side note: Cactus aren’t recommended either becaue they can be sharp or harsh.) I’m not an expert myself… but my suggestion would be to go with your silk and paper flowers, but move them around on occasion and keep them dust free to keep their energy as fresh as possible. Good Luck!
Nigel, I have been a fan of Feng Shui for years. I de-clutter regularly. One tip I try to live by but meet resistance from others in the house is … keep toilet lid closed when not in use. This is said to preserve your wealth and not have it flushed away. There are rules about where to hang landscape paintings with rivers, lakes, waterfalls or the ocean.
Namaste, Maureen.
I love it Maureen! I originally thought it was just about where you put your furniture, but there are so many tips that are much more than that. I’m off now to check on the toilet lid!
