I would like to talk to you about earthbound spirits and why they are different to spirits that cross over. Fortunately there are not as many as most people think as the majority of spirits do cross over.
I think it is a shame that in most cultures there are misconceptions and fear surrounding death. Sadly, most people are not comfortable discussing this subject. I have found that although all spirits are given the choice of crossing over some decide not to.
There can be various reasons for this. Some are;
- They don’t know they have died
- Fear of punishment or guilt
- Desire for revenge or to cause trouble
- Wanting to remain close to loved ones
- Loved ones here not letting them go
Many Earthbound Spirits Need Our Help
Many earthbound spirits choosing to stay here are not happy and need to be helped to cross over. Earthbound spirits cannot hurt you but I have found if around for a long time can cause respiratory conditions in people as they need to use our energy to manifest.
Many people think they have an earthbound spirit when often it is a psychic imprint of energy left and this is very common.
When coming across an earthbound spirit … I use their name if they have given it to me and tell them that they have died and there are people waiting for them who love them and it is time to move on. I then create the light for them to go to. The most important thing here is my intent. I need to be focused on helping the spirit cross over to heal and not freaking out because I have come across someone. My intent is love not fear.
Crossing Over
It is important that Earthbound Spirits cross over so they can move forward.
Just because someone dies does not mean they have gone. They have just taken a step sideways so to speak. I find it easy to tell the difference between earthbound and spirits that have crossed over because they feel different, that is the energy is different. There is often a sense of sadness, guilt, anger, fear, etc. surrounding an earthbound spirit whereas I have never felt this with a spirit that has crossed over. I have found that if they are still bound in fear and negative energy they don’t come back until they have healed and have a reason to come back to help or comfort.

I believe I know some earthbound spirits that cannot move on due to turmoil in life. One spirit is here because he chooses to be close to a loved one or she won’t let him go. I do know she does not want him to leave. I hear him call my name occasionally. I even hear my sister who just passed. I’m not sure why I’ve been chosen to hear the spirit, or see things that (were) or could be.
Hi George, It’s great you have the gift of hearing spirit naturally. Many people strive their entire life for it. The reason for being ‘chosen’ is up to you. I believe the spirit I spoke of has crossed over. My sister is slowly letting my brother-in-law go. She is beginning to give his belongings to other family members. My sisters, I’m not sure of. I was a caregiver to my sister who passed away in February, but I heard two of my sisters who already passed asking where my sister, who just passed, is. I heard them talking, and calling my name, and I also heard my sister Dorothy say Sharon where are you. I’m not sure why but my sister Dorothy, who is deceased said it’s something about my brother. I pray I’m not why they are now deceased. Two sisters passed of stage four lung cancer the other passed of a brain aneurysm, due to a blood clot. She suffered as I did. She also saved me 30 years ago. I use to be a dancer, but could not except the expectations of a dancer. I always blame myself for her condition. Know one would listen to me. I was a professional dancer from a family that was very naive. I gave up what I loved the most, because I could not live up to expectations. This is why I pray my family is not going because of me. All that I’ve suffered is why I began to hear spirits talking.
Can a spirit stay earth bound and not have to make the decision right of way of crossing over? Or does it have to cross over as soon as the Angels asked them to cross over?
Hi Metodie, my understanding is that not all spirits follow the instructions exactly. They still have free will. It is a topic of debate though… so just sit with it and see what feels right for you.
I guess I saw some of them in my house. I didn’t see them regularly but I usually see them during the unexpected moment. It makes me wonder why they let me see them. I didn’t even know them. They shocked me sometimes and makes them wonder if I can see them.

I believe my mother spirit is here with me. I having problems letting go and accepting she’s gone. When I feel alone and I’m sad I called out her name. Hi Olga, It can be hard to let loved ones go and accept they are no longer physically with us. While they may not be physically present, their souls are immortal and live forever. It is often their physical presence we miss, even though we may still sense them around us. Time heals, as they say, so in time you will likely adjust to her not being with you. It can be comforting to know that she will still visit you and during your sleep state you can be together. Before falling asleep at night you can set your intent to visit her in spirit. You can also ask your spirit guides to help you adjust to her passing. They will send you love and light and help the grieving process. I hope that helps a bit. Namaste, Brad
Hi, I had been talking to a ghost using a pendulum. He told me he was my spirit guide and all sorts of predictions for my future. Anyway it turned out he was a liar and is just a dead bloke that’s been stuck here for about 80 years. I’ve asked him if he wants to move on, and he said yes, so I said I’d try to help. I diont think he was such a good person when he was alive – so he might be afraid. Any thoughts?
Hi Debra, it sounds like you’re quite psychic and connected. 🙂 I would recommend asking him to go to the light if he is willing. You can reassure him that he is safe and there will be spirits and family willing to help him. You may like to imagine a white door opening with angels on each side of the door. Earth bound Spirits are ghost. The difference between Spirits and Ghosts? Spirits are souls of the dead who have been to the afterworld and choose to revisit human beings to soothe and comfort them. They want us to recognize them through their sounds and smells as they are really our loved ones who left us after dying and have also completed their afterlife. Ghosts are the souls of dead who are not able to cross the line between the real world and the after world. They choose to haunt places and people they were associated with when alive. Ghosts have not been able to cross the boundary to live an after life and are waiting to be liberated to start on their journey of an afterlife. I have several friendly children spirit dolls and they are free to do as they wish and will leave when ready, could be months from or thousands of years from now.

My brother was murdered 2 months ago and I have been feeling like he is still here, like he’s angry with what they did to him, and he wants to stay with us in his life. He believed that when a person dies tragically, they stay there. So my question is, How can I help him find peace and should I do it where he passed? It makes me sad to think he is all alone, just waiting, not knowing he passed away.
Hi Jessica, I am sorry to hear that, that must be very hard to deal with. Sometimes when a soul dies tragically, it can take some time before they realise they are now in the non-physical realm again. As you say, they may hang around for a period of time, before they move on. I’d suggest if you feel your brother’s presence around you, to ask him to go to the light. You may like to visualise a white door opening with angels on both sides and encouraging him to walk through the door. Sometimes, seeing a medium to communicate with him can help with healing and closure. In closing, I would say, death is not the end, and while it is sad for those left behind, our soul is immortal and lives forever. I hope in time you find peace about the loss of your brother.
My Son died from cancer at the way too young age of 20. That was four years ago. About 6 months after he died I was woken up at 2:30 a.m. My door was locked somehow. I knew it was him. For about 3 or 4 months we communicated by him knocking 1 for YES and 2 for No. I stumbled across this page on how to help spirits crossover. Not too long later I was woken knowing he was in the process of crossing over. I knew I wouldn’t be able to communicate anymore so I asked him to tell me how beautiful it was THERE by the amount of knocks he sent me. I must have received a dozen knocks. I know my son is in Heaven and I will strive everyday to be a better person so I can be with my son.

Last night I was visited by ghosts while I was sleeping. I could feel them all around and I was very fearful that they would hurt me. One of them finally materialized and I could see that it was a young man. He came towards me and at the last minute I opened my arms to hug him. I awoke very suddenly and repeated that it was safe for him to cross over. I have never seen that young man before.
Very brave of you Erika! Although many of us are spiritually connected, it can still get the heart racing when faced with something like this. Work with your guide to provide you continual energetic protection. This saves the panic that you are in danger, which often results in putting up ‘walls’ that block everything from reaching you. I can remember when I was little I had an imaginary friend whom I called “HOODIE”. This lady was with me always and seemed as though she never wanted to leave my side. My home burned down at the age of 4 and after that I never saw her again. I am very connected to spirit world, however trauma happened and I wasn’t in full power for a very long time. Hi Tracy, Many children are very open to spirit when they are young, unfortunately as we grow older we are conditioned to believe it’s just our imagination. I’d say your imaginary friend may have been a spirit guide or perhaps a relative in spirit watching over you. My grandmother would always tell me this story of when I was very young. One of their poodles had just died and I said to my Nanna,’look a doggie, but it’s a broken doggie’. I then started stroking the air. Many children have similar experiences with spirit, particularly if they are sensitive. I have just moved into my dream apartment only to find that there appears to be an earth-bound spirit taking up residence. I sensed it for sometime even telling him he must leave. Well, that has not worked and he seems to be acting out a bit when I mention him. He’s been mostly harmless except for when I tried cleansing with dragon’s blood. That was a horribly sleepless night and I just kept hearing voices and sensing some anger and/or discomfort from the earth-bound. Since my friend and her children are visiting, I can’t ignore it anymore. The 3 year old boy has been very chatty about the “person who died in a fire or car crash” and I sense that this spirit wants to stay but also wants to go.
Can anyone help me in what to do?
Hi Brandi, it sounds like you’re quite psychic and in-tune to be able to sense and pick up the earth bound spirit around you. He may realise this and is wanting some assistance to cross-over. I would suggest to ask the spirit in your mind or out loud to go to the light. Visualise a white door or portal opening up with angels on each side and ask or motion for the spirit to go to the light.
Both of my parents died 2 months ago – 6 days apart. My mother had Parkinson’s and my dad was her primary caregiver and had end-stage Emphysema. He refused to let anyone help besides me. My mom was in the hospital for 4 weeks, and the last week my dad went into the hospital. My mom went to a nursing home on hospice, my dad decided to be put on hospice. He died 2 days later. The day after we buried dad, my mom the next morning.
We had a very close family – my parents, my brother (2 years younger), and me. I am 2 years divorced and have 2 boys, and my ex was verbally and mentally abusive. There is ALOT of animosity between my parents, brother and my ex. My parents were worried about me because of problems with my sons (23 and 14) and issues that they were exhibiting – I have some health problems, and I have had problems with money due to PTSD from childhood trauma that I found out through therapy was caused by my father (which I forgave him for immediately)… I don’t have all of the memories – I believe that God has not given me the memories because if I had them I would have been able to be there for them over the past 2 years to help them through this time that they needed me.
Now, my brother and I have two houses that we are trying to get sold – the old, big house that they lived in until last year, and the new house that they lived in less than a year – that I am considering buying and moving into.
The problem is that things are moving around in the house…..
Lights are being turned on, drawers are opened in the bathroom and the door is shut. Several times that my brother has gone after work.
This has happened alot.
The MOST ACTIVE day was this week when I told my brother that I was going to buy their house and I was going to go and check on the house after work.
I got there and the first thing I noticed was that mom and dad’s recliner’s had their blankets in the seats as if they had just gotten up out them and laid them down….. Two days before when we left, both of them had been in a rocker across the room.
I went to go down the hall, and noticed that the bathroom light was on. But I stopped short, when I noticed that the bedroom to the right had an angel lit up on the coffee table – it was plugged in and the cord was under two shelves that my brother had taken off the wall on the previous Sunday. EVERYTHING had been taken down off the walls on Sunday, but two angels had been put back on the wall. And there were 4 items put back in the hutch in the kitchen. And my dad’s partial (teeth) that my brother moved from the hutch back to his nightstand….. was back in the exact same place on the hutch….
I sat in dad’s chair and had a talk and asked if he thought it would be ok for me to buy the house and live there…. I also told him that it was ok for him to move on and be with mom…. That we were ok – that I was ok… And all the things that I didn’t talk about at the hospital that I should have said because I spent most of my time with my mom because he wanted me to be with her because that was the kind of man he was – he loved my mom more than anything. I talked about how I forgave him a long time ago, and that even though he didn’t think he deserved to go to Heaven, if he asked God for forgiveness, which I am sure that he did, then God had already forgiven him, he just needed to forgive himself. It was alright to move on and be with mom because he was a great father who always put his family first and he taught us both how important family is, and I will make sure that my brother is in both my son’s lives. I told him that I will be ok, and getting better every day. I told him that I needed to know that he was ok with me buying the house and if he stayed around and kept moving things, then I would know that he was either not ok with it, or that something else was bothering him and we would need to find out what that was. I will be checking today to see if anything was moved around.
Hi Angie, thanks for sharing your story. It’s never easy when loved one’s pass away. I actually think your Dad and Mum are giving you a sign that they are still with you, by moving the items in their old home. I would interpret this as a sign to let you know that they are still alive and well in the spirit world. I’m sure if you decided to buy the house then they would be happy for you to do that. I also feel that if that is something you want to do, to do it for yourself – what you feel is best for you. It could bring up memories from the past if you decided to live in your old parents home. So I would suggest to think it through, and not rush into any decisions.
