This month has been all about goodness for me. It started as an experiment in mindfulness, but it also evolved into having some quality time apart from caffeine also.
I wasn’t a big coffee drinker, but that little lull an hour or so after lunch was killing me. Without a coffee shot I was getting the nods, losing concentration, motor skills and direction.
I tried to combat it with a burst of exercise, but I kept forgetting what I was trying to do, falling over and wandering aimlessly in a daze.
I would seem to come good again at about 3pm in the afternoon – but having just suffered 2 hours of apparent jet-lag, my afternoon was always rushed.
I take pride in my work ethic … so could I do it?
Could I try to have a sleep in the middle of the day?
The Power Nap
I know from my travels through Mexico and stories I’ve heard from Europe, they can think you are weird if you don’t get some afternoon shut-eye – which led me to believe that siesta’s have been widespread and commonplace throughout much of the world for most of history … So why not have a try myself?
“Ahhh … laying down feels nice; Close eyes, big breath in, big sigh on release, physical relaxation. This will be great – because I have so many things to do this afternoon. First I’ve got to … Secondly I’ll … then I can … I won’t have the nods, I – Hang-on! HEY BRAIN – STOP THINKING! Sleep, Sleep, Sleep!
(2 minutes later) Am I asleep yet? No.
Do I think I’m going to get some sleep at some stage soon? No.
Since pre-school I’ve been practicing to be as productive as possible during the day. How can you get anything done when you are in and out of your pajamas?! My brain was definitely telling me that ‘sleeping is cheating!’.
So what can I do to convince my brain to at least ‘try’ having a power nap so I can gauge the results?
Ahhh… Acoustic Brainwave Activation.
I know about the different brainwave frequencies my brain operates in for best effect. I know about how to use specific aural frequencies to change these brainwave patterns to the mode of operation that I want.
So hello research…
Power Nap evidence is mounting that taking a power nap during the day appears to enhance information processing and learning. New experiments by Alan Hobson M.D., Robert Stickgold Ph.D., and colleagues at Harvard University show that a midday sleep reverses information overload and shows a 20 percent improvement in learning a motor skill.
While the so-called ‘super-achievers’ are out on their coffee breaks, researchers say real achievers have discovered a much more effective way to refresh … The Power Nap.
Cornell psychologist Dr. James Maas, writes that a 20 minute nap in the afternoon should be considered a part of one’s daily exercise routine!
You can stop right there, you had me at hello.
The best way to Power Nap
When ‘Meditation Power’ experimented with a whole range of alpha brainwave frequencies they found that a particular frequency consistently induced sleep.
So they created a 30 minute program to induce the necessary brainwave patterns to induce deep sleep quickly – followed by the pattern necessary for increased alertness.
Now watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat! Because this sounds like the magic I need!
The frequencies are programmed into the rain sound that you hear in the download. All you need to do is listen to the gentle sound of the rain to change your brainwave pattern to the required frequency.
I turned off the light switch and was in bed asleep before it was dark. (Ok, that bit didn’t really happen.) But you get the idea …
And if you don’t believe me they have a free sample you can listen to on their website if you are interested in checking it out for yourself.
You might want to put a pillow on your keyboard preemptively in case you are really receptive!
Just look for the Power Nap button as they have also created some other really great programs with a variety of intents. (Well worth a look too.)
Their Acoustic Brainwave Activations change your brainwave activity, mood or state safely, consistently and effectively. You can achieve peace, relaxation, enlightenment, personal enhancement and much, much more.
If you feel like having the BEST power nap ever, you can download their programs instantly.
